The ‘Performing Preferred Lives’ Consultation Group

with Masha Tiunova  & Co-Host Elena Baskina

The starting date has been postponed until the last week in May, 2022. See below for the proposed timing.
The ‘Performing Preferred Lives’ Consultation Group will blend the narrative approach with applied theatre and contemporary performing arts: movement, embodiment, drawing, music and poetry. In the midst of the humanitarian crisis, performing arts can become a new tool to explore and nourish identities, celebrate communities, live chosen lives. Together, we will practice, reflect, and share our knowledges as professionals and creators (in and of) our own lives. Both Masha and Elena are currently trying to find ways for themselves and others to hold onto what’s dear and stay connected in the face of war in Ukraine.

Group is limited to 20 participants hopefully from around the world. Beginning May 27, 2022. we will  meet via Zoom tentatively biweekly on Fridays, 4pm London, 11am New York and 8am Los Angeles (May 27, June 10, June 24, July 8, July 22, August 5.) Please contact us if you are interested in this group but cannot make that time.

The fee is $390. We are reserving up to four free spaces for Ukrainian therapists and people working pro bono with people from Ukraine.

If you can afford to give more, click here for a list of organizations supporting funding, shelter and emergency resources for artists affected by the war in Ukraine.

Join Us in Creating Artistic Responses to Suffering

I’m trying to navigate two realities – the one of war, and one trying to carry on for myself and my daughter. Some days it’s better, other days the war reality takes over. The most dangerous thing is to get accustomed to the war. I’m reading a lot of war literature now, my performance research touches upon the topic, and I’m working on my next assignment with an expert on post-war theatre from Belgrade. I didn’t plan to do that, but it doesn’t seem possible not to do it. You inspired us to generate an artistic response to the pandemic, now I’m trying to do so around the war.

Masha Tiunova (Moscow, Russia now living in London)

My Forecast 2020

with Maria Tiunova (Lyrics), Elena Baskina (Vocals), Dean Lobovits (Music) arranged by a Russian indie composer

Masha Tiunova explores human connections to help people and companies perform the lives of their preference. In 2016 Masha became fascinated with the narrative approach and has been integrating it into her consulting work with business, academia and communities. In 2020 Masha and Elena cofounded the Reconnect Project to facilitate reconnections in the post-pandemic times. Throughout her practice, Masha has been applying performing and creative practices to the narrative means. Currently an MA Applied Theatre student at Royal Central School of Speech and Drama (London), she has been studying movement, improv, clown art, vocal, butoh to support people, including herself, to live preferred lives. With Elena Baskina* and Dean Lobovits and inspired by Re-Authoring Teaching, she started writing songs during the pandemic and formed the Unknown Artists collective.

Elena Baskina  is a narrative practitioner from Russia now living in New York City with over ten years of experience in therapy, education, community work. An expert in working with trauma, she is in active conversation with clients in Ukraine, Russia and other countries. She will join as a co-host for two sessions.

Events are recorded, and then become available on-demand afterwards to Collab Members – or course registrants – whether or not able to join in real time.
